  1. I have real concerns about this type of snooping/analytic tools and capabilities!

When did you ask me that it was ok to monitor my web use? When did I say that I was happy for you to take that information and use it for your commercial benefit?

I think that there are real privacy issues here and whilst within the Enterprise we may determine that the company has the right to collect this information (on their own and owned infrastructure) - in the private space (or when the company don't own the hardware) then I think you have to provide choice and opt-out.

  2. Google's stats are pretty powerful ... but in terms of content they don't offer anything more than most webmasters can current get through standard WebTrend reporting (OS, Browser Type, ISP etc).

It is a very intersting scenario you raise though - wrt. the nature of the aggregate information and more invasive data collection. If this was a e.g. branded website Geo hit data could be a concern in the wrong hands.

Google are being VERY careful not to step the line. They know that if they go to far privacy advovate groups will be on their back. They also know corporates won't engage if there's a hint of data leakage. Will def. be on to watch.
